40 things to do at 40 **CONTINUALLY UPDATED**

Now I have officially entered my 40th year, I shall be updating this list as I go along and writing accompanying blogs where appropriate:

  • Have a holiday – maybe to Guernsey
  • Plant a tree or something unusual in the garden to mark the occasion  ** DONE!!
  • Go skinny dipping
  • Self-publish The Four Matthews and Majella Bracebridge (probably only the former will be possible since I haven’t even finished the latter yet!)
  • See a show
  • Have a party  ** DONE!!
  • Have a birthday cake  ** DONE!!
  • Swim 40 lengths of a swimming pool (possibly for charity)  ** DONE!!
  • Donate £40 to a charity – ** DONE – £20 each to 2 charities, St Giles Hospice and St Basil’s
  • Visit Kew Gardens
  • Visit the Imperial War Museum  ** DONE!!
  • Visit a cheese factory / shop   ** DONE!!
  • Visit another kind of food/alcohol factory  ** DONE!!
  • Do something interesting with my hair  ** DONE!!
  • Have a personal shopper experience  ** DONE!!
  • Do a vineyard tour
  • Do a cookery course  ** DONE!!
  • Eat some new foods I haven’t tried before  ** DONE
  • Go for a long walk (e.g. the Cotswold Way)
  • Do a first aid course
  • Afternoon tea  ** DONE!!
  • Go to see an artiste I have always wanted to see in concert
  • Travel by a mode of transport I have never used before  ** DONE!!
  • Take a ride / sit in a vintage car  ** DONE!!
  • Do a course in car maintenance or DIY  ** DONE!!
  • Meet at least one famous person – preferably an author  ** DONE!!
  • Go to a book signing  ** DONE!!
  • Meet Su Pollard (or another star of a Perry & Croft sitcom)
  • Do something to commemorate what would have been my late dad’s 80th birthday   ** DONE!!
  • Do something to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Nathan and I meeting.
  • Do something to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary.
  • Be in the audience for Strictly Come Dancing
  • Go to the Hay Festival  ** DONE!!
  • Try contact lenses  ** TRIED – DIDN’T LIKE!
  • Learn how to make soap or candles
  • Have a dedication (for either my birthday or our 10th wedding anniversary) read out on Paul O’Grady’s Radio 2 show.
  • See an Aardman character (preferably Shaun the Sheep) in the flesh, so to speak, or have some kind of experience related to Aardman Animations (who are also 40 this year)  ** DONE!!
  • Watch 40 classic old movies throughout the year that I have never seen:
